Product Description

RustConverter is a single component water based active chemical (liquid) whichreacts with the adherent rust on the metal surface and forms a stable protectivefilm. This film prevents further rusting of steel.

Rust converters are water-based primerswhich contain two active ingredients: tannic acid and an organic polymer.Tannic acid reacts with iron oxide (rust) and chemically converts it to irontannate, a dark-colored stable material. Tannins are a group of water- andalcohol soluble natural products extracted from fruits, trees and grasses. Thesecond active ingredient, 2-Butoxyethanol, is an organic polymer that providesa protective primer layer. The overall chemical reaction converts rust into astable black protective polymeric coating that serves as an excellent primerfor both oil and epoxy based paints.

Applications:

Good surface preparation will enable arust converter to work effectively and leads to a high quality end result.Remove large rust and scale particles with a stiff bristled brush, hammer orsandpaper. This step provides a stable surface by removing any loose or flakingrust. The point is not to remove all the rust. This defeats the purpose of arust converter. The rust converter chemically bonds to the rust and seals itin. A rust converter cannot penetrate grease or oil, so clean and degrease thesurface first, then let it dry to ensure that other surface other surfacecontaminants will not interfere with the reaction of the rust converter on therusted surface. If the surface is subject to salt-water spray for deicingsalts, rinse the surface thoroughly with water and allow it to dry prior toapplying a rust converter.
